Tower Hamlets Town Hall
Community conservative
Newly refurbished Tower Hamlets Town Hall is purpose-built to invoke an atmosphere that brings the community together. Using methods to protect heritage and environment, AHMM selected materials made from recycled waste throughout the design. The textures range from slatted wall panels, monolithic surfaces to leather upholstery, which will all wear gracefully and patina with age.
Using strips of edge grain Richlite Stratum Bamboo and perforated Black Diamond adds visual contrast to the warm linear wall slats, and add to the acoustic comfort of the council chambers - much needed in a space filled with dialogue, debate and consideration. Cladding the walls of the Grade II listed building, with floor-to-ceiling Richlite Black Diamond gives a look of blackened steel or leather and creates an intimate ambience in otherwise large, open plan interior.
